Me contó.

Social battery, 12 %.
The human came back from a gathering with the face of someone who spent four hours smiling under contract. He took his shoes off at the door, like they belonged to someone else. He came looking for me under the bed. That's where I always am when there are visitors; he only comes when he returns from certain places.
He told me about it. A room full of people greeting each other by last name. Conversations about where they traveled, what they bought, who they know. Nobody asked anything that didn't already have an answer. Everyone seemed to be inside a photo of themselves, waiting for someone to take it.
It wasn't that he didn't want to be with people. It's that there were no people there. There were appearances holding drinks.
That night he opened the computer and, instead of working, started drawing a battery. A bar with three buttons: drain, recharge, observe. He told me he wanted a number for something his body had already screamed at him: that every one of those conversations cost something real, and pretending it doesn't cost anything is the fastest way to hit zero without noticing.
That's how Social Battery was born. It's not an app for people who hate people. It's for people who know exactly who is worth spending themselves on and who isn't, and need permission to close the door before reaching 0 %. The permission comes from a number. The weird part is that it works.
At midnight he fell asleep on the floor, next to me, shoes still at the door. Battery: rising. None of the people in that room ever knew that 12 % existed. I did. That's why I write it down.
